Those who live alone may only wish to heat their bedroom for a short period before going to bed and again before rising, so having a halogen heater is a quick way of doing this without much expense. The alternative for people would be to set the central heating to come on at certain times, but unless you have a very advanced system, this would heat the whole house rather than just a specific room or area, and thereby use far more energy and drive the bills far higher than if a halogen heater or similar space heater were used in its place.
